Sugars
From CandyFabWiki
The primary material used for CandyFab fabrication thus far has been crystaline sucrose, aka, table sugar.
Sucrose caramelizes (turns dark and tasty) as it cooks. Fructose may be a better choice for a number of reasons, including its low melting point and lack of caramelization. (It may also be possible to avoid caramelization by operating a CandyFab in an oxygen-deprived environment.)
There are a great many other sugars and "sugar alcohols," sweet chemicals like sorbitol, that may be suitable for CandyFab production.
Here are some qualities of sugar that make it ideal for fabrication:
- Rigid
- Low melting point
- Inexpensive
- Readily available
- Safe
- Water soluble
- Edible
- Smells incredibly good when it cooks.
(This article is a stub. We need a list here of various other sugar and sugar-like materials, where to buy them, and their properties.)
