From CandyFabWiki
The CandyFab Project actively encourages to make your own machine. Whether that's precisely engineered or DIY from the ground up, with a budget or on the cheap, it's still worth doing. Don't forget that old printers, scanners, plotters, and even desk drawers provide a wealth of low cost (or even free) motion control components that are particularly well suited to making solid freeform fabrication machines.
